Today

Is the first day of March, the month whence spring arrives!!! Though you'd never know it around here. Winter seems to be dragging along this year, and I've never looked more forward to spring. 21 more sleeps.

I just read an article today that foretells of disaster around December 12, 2012. Apparently an underwater lava lake is due to burst, which could put us in a nuclear-style winter for 10 years at best, cause tsunamis and tectonic plate shifts which will devastate entire continents. Not exactly what you'd call good news. Man, that's only five years away! And, no, it was not in The Weekly World News, it comes from Maclean's, Canada's most respected news magazine, not known for sensationalism. The article offered no hope for how to survive this doomsday except for making for the hills of South Africa, which apparently are impervious to both sorts of damage. Well. There you have it. Apparently, most scientists agree with this forecast, and the Mayans, considered the world's best-ever astronomers, foresaw this date also. Too bad they're not around anymore to discuss this with.

On the one hand I want to know more about this, on the other, it's probably better that I don't.

Yes, I tried to find an online link to the article in question, but couldn't. It's a depressing article. This morning I was reading about how the pine beetle, having now eaten all of BC's forests, is going to start on Alberta's, and is marching towards Saskatchewan's. Doom and gloom.

Sounds interesting. I heard a similar thing a while back, about the huge bulge growing in Yellowstone. Was it that? There are people who think that will all blow sky high and kill us..
But so could bird flu, and our own damn govt.. (well, maybe not YOUR govt P, lol) and meteorites, and the lava shelf about to cause a massive tsunami off the Canary Islands, when that falls off..
It's good to bear in mind our fragility, but keep making the most of this moment, too, hey? ;-)

That 2012 thing might just be a self-fulfilling prophecy if we don't watch it.
